The Perfect Christmas Wines

Dec 14, 11 The Perfect Christmas Wines

Let’s face it, booze is just as much as part of the holidays as turkey and tamales. While some people prefer colorful cocktails, others like to stick to good old wine. And with the temperatures outside dropping, nothing fits the mood better than a bold red. Ramon Sandoval from Vino Latino, which promotes wineries made or owned by Latinos in the US, recommends Mi Sueno Syrah or Sciandri Vineyards Cabernet as good alternatives for snuggling by the fire. And speaking of turkey and tamales, Sandoval also has some great suggestions to accompany these traditional holiday meals. Ceja Vineyards’ blend of Pinot and Syrah, Vinos de Casa, is the perfect complement to the flavors of a turkey meal that includes stuffing and sweet potatoes. As for tamales, Murrieta’s Well makes a Tempranillo that is a match made in heaven for them. And if you really want to get into the spirit of Christmas while getting your buzz on, consider buying wines that support charitable endeavors. Amani from Porter Family Vineyards, for example, gives 100% of its proceeds to a home in Africa for children.  Ehlers Estate supports Camp del Corazon, a summer camp for children with heart disease.  Other altruistic wines include Trahan’s Sadie’s Blend, Boyanci, Greater Purpose and Humanitas. Don’t forget to drink responsibly, though, chicas! These wines may be nobler than others, but they will still give you the same resaca.
