The Braiding Bunch

Sep 12, 11 The Braiding Bunch

Braids were a big hit in 2010, showing up everywhere from the haute couture runways to your local neighborhood Wal-Mart. They’re still going strong as a trend in 2011, but this year has given the tried and true braids a little twist. These aren’t the good-girl trenzas you wore on the schoolyard; the hairstyle that will be dominating this Fall season is the half-up braid, a very pretty and feminine, yet easy-to-create coif.  The best part about it is that it is so versatile; it can be casual just as easy as it can be elegant. You can sport the hottest hairdo of the year by following these simple steps:

  • Start by creating loose and gentle waves all over your head with your styling weapon of choice.
  • Separate the top half of your hair in two sections. You can go either with a side part or a middle part, whatever is your preference. Pick the first section and braid it up until about halfway down your head. Secure the end of the braid with bobby pins or a hair elastic so it stays in place while you work on the second braid.
  • Braid the second section, then release the first braid and secure the two braids together with the pins or elastic.

For better results, you can use styling mousse if you have fine hair (before starting) or hairspray if your tresses are thick or not in need of extra volume).
