Stress Therapy with a Kick: Canelazo

Feb 22, 12 Stress Therapy with a Kick: Canelazo

Step away from the hot chocolate, girl. It might be cold outside, but after a 10 hour day at the office and that loca, Candice, on your team taking the credit for all of your work you need something a little stronger. A Canelazo is definitely in order. No. It’s not a juetazo to Candice’s head, but sure, that’ll probably feel good too.

It’s a steaming cup of hot liquid that the locals in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru drink to warm up in the frigid Andes. It’s super easy to make and you can find most of the ingredients at almost any bodega, liquor store,  or in the ethnic foods section at your supermarket. You just mix aguapanela, cinnamon, lime juice, some cloves and aguardiente – an anise flavored liquor – which literally means “fire water”. Wepa! Fill er up, please!

Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients
( Serves about 6 – 8 )
2 cups aguapanela (suger cane drink)
1 cup aguardiente
4 cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon lime juice

After a few sips and becoming one with your overstuffed couch you’ll set your soul on fire, warm your belly, and you’ll be saying, Candice who? There’s nothing that a little cup of liquid comfort and alcohol therapy can’t solve until the next day in the rat race. Fondo blanco, chica!
