So you’ve finally decided to take the plunge and cook for your boyfriend. And for your first dish, you are flaunting your Latina-ness and whipping up a scrumptious ajiaco. Now all you need are the ingredients: chicken, corn…and papa criolla. Except where the eff can you buy papas criollas in the States? This is probably not the first time you’ve been stumped trying to find a Latin ingredient. Trying to find authentic Hispanic foodstuffs isn’t always easy, especially in areas where they may not be large Latino populations. But don’t fret, chica, that’s what the Internet is for! Sites like Amigo Foods and Mex Grocer help you curb your cravings by providing all types of Latin goodies. You can find more than just food, too, there are all types of household supplies that even if you’re not familiar with, abuelita probably remembers fondly.  You can also try scouting your town for small bodegas and panaderias that may not be listed in the phonebook or online. And as always in the Latin community, the best form of advertisement is word of mouth, so make sure to ask around among your acquaintances for good tips on where to shop. Between all of this, you can be sure you’ll never need to go without yerba mate, Pony Malta, aji amarillo, dulce de leche, or any of your favorite motherland delicacies ever again.
