City you live in:
I live in Chicago, Illinois.

English/Spanish/Spanglish:
English/Some Spanish.

Favorite Latin food you can’t live without:
It’s hard to only name one! I definitely can’t live without my mother’s Arroz con Pollo and platanos.

What is your Latina contradiction?
I don’t know if this would be a Latina contradiction…but I am a Black Puerto Rican. It may be hard to believe, but a lot of people don’t realize that there are Black Latinas, so they are often surprised to learn my ethnicity. As a blogger that focuses on celebrity news, I often cover Black Latinas so that people are more aware of our existence.

When you think of Latin culture, what are the first words you think of?
I think of music, pride, and family. I loved spending summers in Puerto Rico with my mom and sister. It was so much fun! I remember visiting all my relatives (literally everyone) during my trips. I also have very fond memories of grabbing coconuts from my grandparents’ tree and watching my grandfather slice them open.

What is your ethnicity? Or where is your family from?
African American/Puerto Rican…I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. My mother is from Canóvanas, Puerto Rico and came to Chicago in her twenties to continue her education after finishing her undergraduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico. She came to Chicago and met my dad as they were both teachers at a predominantly Latino and African–American school on the North Side of Chicago.

Latina? American? Both?
I identify as an African-American/Black Latina.

Favorite Latin artist or music?
I love all types of music! A few of my favorite artists… Sérgio Mendes, John Legend, Jennifer Lopez, Miguel, The Black Eyed Peas, Daddy Yankee, Royce and favorite music types include Reggae ton, Bachata, Neo-Soul, Hip-hop, Jazz and Gospel.

iPhone or BlackBerry?
I can’t live without my Blackberry!

How do you describe your style?
I describe my style as sophisticated, classy, and sexy!

What media in English and/or Spanish do you prefer/consume, as in what magazines, newspapers, TV shows, etc?
Print – Latina Magazine…Television – I’m a Reality TV show junkie! I watch Basketball Wives, The Real Housewives, Love and Hip Hop, True Blood, Desperate Housewives and The Game.

What’s your favorite Latin restaurant?
“Tumbao” in Chicago, Illinois.
