Mirna Arce

City you live in:
St.Marys, GA for now. We move every 3 years because we are a military family. I lived in Miami and Key West.

Occupation and why?
I am a online Travel Specialist during the day, Blogger and freelance web designer at night. I have always enjoyed working with people and my love for travel gave me the skills to become a successful travel advisor. At night, I spend countless hours posting about my savings adventures and teaching others how to use coupons effectively. Also, my passion for web design keeps my mind creative and alive.

A regular day consists of?
I start my day by taking my son to school so that I can start working. Between emails, phone calls, projects and cleaning the house, my hours go by so fast that, before I know it, it’s 5pm and I have to pick up my son from school. Once he is home, it is family time! We ride our bikes daily because mami needs to lose some pounds. We prepare dinner and eat at the table. Yes, it’s very important for me to spend dinner time with my boys and know how their day was. Once my son is sleeping, I start working again. I love working at night when it’s quiet around the house.

How do you define success?
Success is feeling accomplished and proud of what you do. I also like to measure my success by the times I make my son smile, the times I complete a great project and the times I am able to help others.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Keep myself organized is still my biggest challenge. Between work, my passion for blogging and web design my life has become less predictable and I love it, but I struggle balancing responsibilities, hobbies and quality time with my family.

What advice would you give a Latina who wants to follow in your footsteps?
I would tell her to trust her own instincts and don’t be afraid of her talent. Explore the chances that life give and be patience because hard work always pays off.

What’s on your bucket list?
Go back to school to finish my Bachelor’s Degree. Also, I really want spend Christmas in Argentina. I go to Argentina other times of the year but it’s been really hard to take time off during the Holidays.

I am proud to be Latina because:
We are the warmest and joyful people by nature. For example, we kiss each other when we meet, even if we don’t know the person. I used to scare Americans when I’d try to kiss them on the cheeks. I didn’t know in United States people give handshakes instead. This simple gesture shows friendship and a warm greeting within the Latin community. That’s why I did it and I still do when the person allows me :) . I am also proud of being Latina because the challenge of being a minority gave me the strength to overcome my own fears. I hope to pass on to my son the tools to embrace this part of his culture.

How do you get your Latin fix?
I bring my mom from Argentina every year. She brings great food with her and habits that I still miss from my beautiful country.

Spanglish, English, Spanish?
I speak Spanish because it’s my native language. I speak English with an accent to my husband. But after 10 years in United States, Spanglish is growing on me.

My favorite Latina stereotype is:
We know how to cook. Yes, most of us know how to cook and this is our way to show love to our family every day. My husband complains that when I am mad at him I don’t cook but I explain him this is my way to tell him “I don’t like you right now”.

Best advice from mami and/or abuelita:
The best advice from my Mami was when I decided to move to United States. She said: “ve y se feliz” ( In Enlgish means “Go and be happy”) and that’s what I did. Thank you, Mami!

Favorite home remedy:
Oregano Tea for menstrual cramps. It does works, especially when it’s made by your mamá!
