Body language is second nature to us Latinas. From shaking what our mamas gave us on the dance floor to lively hand gestures during conversation, we know the value of communicating without words. Ever seen Argentinians order an espresso? Their lips don’t move. They do it all with one hand. Unfortunately however, all those animated facial expressions we are prone to can lead to wrinkles. Especially forehead wrinkles when you raise your eyebrows in surprise or disbelief, like at Sofia Vergara’s Peruvian comment. With aging comes wisdom, but also loss of skin elasticity so you have to start taking care not to end up with more wrinkles than a Shar-Pei. The following consejos will allow you to maintain a smooth forehead without the aid of Botox or weird fillers:

  • Can’t say it enough: avoid prolonged sun exposure and never, ever leave home without sunscreen.
  • Quit smoking! It’s bad for your overall health, not just your beauty,
  • Sleep on your back; sleeping on your side or your back causes wrinkles over time.
  • Stay well-hydrated. This means at least 64 ounces of water a day. For you metric challenged chicas, that means about a gallon of water.
  • Always remove make-up before going to bed.
  • A healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and plenty of exercise are key to beautiful skin. Make sure to consume plenty of vitamins A, C, E and K.
  • Products containing hydroxy acids stimulate collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • It’s hard, but try to keep facial expressions in check. In other words, turn that frown upside down!  Won’t it just worsen your mood to give yourself wrinkles?
