Latin Dinner Idea for Valentine’s Day

Feb 09, 11 Latin Dinner Idea for Valentine’s Day

Getting a reservation at a decent restaurant on Valentine’s Day can be an effin’ nightmare. Even if you do manage to get in, it’s crowded and stuffy; hardly the intimate dinner you envisioned. Why not go for a cozy and romantic home-cooked meal? You don’t need to get crazy with some overly-elaborate dish that takes hours to prepare and requires hundreds of dollars worth of ingredients. Latina chef Elsie Ramos has a simple and delicious recipe that’s just perfect for the occasion: camarones en cerveza. It’s quick and easy to make, and since it has beer in it you know it’s sure to be a hit with your man.

  • Start by sautéing one julienned green pepper and one julienned onion in a large skillet with butter.
  • Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until soft.
  • Remove the vegetables from the skillet, turn up the heat and add the shrimp.
  • Again, cook for 5 minutes or until thoroughly pink and then pour the peppers and onions back in.
  • Next, add half a bottle of room-temperature beer and continue to cook on high until most of it has evaporated.
  • Finish by seasoning with salt and pepper, and a dash of red pepper flakes for extra kick.
  • Serve with white rice or tostones and you have got yourself a gourmet dinner for two in 20 minutes flat.

As for dessert, we’re sure you can come up with something sweet and naughty all on your own.
