How Well Do You Know America?

Sep 20, 11 How Well Do You Know America?

You know a LOT about your country of origin. Between your papi drilling you with Spanish and history lessons, mami cooking up typical dishes, the rhythm of the traditional music permeating every celebration and the trips to the homeland to visit los abuelos, you pretty much got the whole thing covered. Good for you! Now, how up to date are you on the facts of your actual home country, namely the U.S.?  Would you be able to pass a test designed for foreigners hoping to become American citizens? Sure, everyone knows what the colors of our flag are and what we celebrate on the Fourth of July, but you’d be amazed at the number of people who don’t know stuff as basic as how many states there are, or which are the three branches of government (a sad commentary on the state of education, but that’s a whole other story). All kidding aside, it never hurts to brush up on current issues so go ahead and test yourself. If you don’t score as well as you’d hoped, maybe it’s time to reacquaint yourself with some of the things you learned in 7th grade social studies class. Or, you know, read a newspaper.
