Gift Giving Under Control

Dec 14, 10 Gift Giving Under Control

A Blinged-Out Facial

Christmas is great, of course. It’s the season to be jolly and all that. It’s nice spending time with family and indulging in delicious holiday food you normally would consider more sinful than Padre Alberto’s scandalous relationship. The only downside is that you have to shop for a ton of gifts and you are having trouble keeping track of ideas, wish lists, gifts bought, gifts to buy and so forth. Like, in which site was it that you saw that Vicente Fernandez CD collection that would be perfect for your Dad? Or, did you already buy those cute “Dora La Exploradora” pajamas for your baby sobrinita? Keep the chaos to a minimum by using one of the following web-based gift organizers:

  • Wishpot: add items from all over the web with their easy to add bookmarklet button and tag them by recipient, occasion or personal notes.
  • Amazon Gift Organizer: allows you to create a list of general gift ideas, or specific lists for each person. Its quick search function helps you search for gift ideas based on the lists you already created, so you don’t have to worry about running low on ideas.
  • Springpad: it has a built-in price comparison engine as well as coupon alerts and reminders of upcoming events, so you have no excuse for forgetting someone’s birthday and getting a bargain on their gift while you’re at it. Can be used on your cell too.
  • Simplenote: this is a simple, plain-text capture tool that also includes cloud-based backup and cross-platform syncing. It’s the old pen and paper with a 21st century twist. Take it mobile by using it straight on your cell.
  • Spreadsheets: if you want to kick it old-school there’s nothing more reliable than good old Excel to make your gift tracking as simple or as complex as you like.

The best part is that after Christmas you can use the same tools to keep track of the gifts you received and decide which ones you want to return or re-gift. Hee hee.
