Recipe for watermelon agua frescaThere’s nothing quite like a cool drink on a hot summer day. And if that drink just happens to be healthy and a nod to your heritage at the same time, well that’s just an awesome two-for-one bonus. The lip-smacking goodness that are aguas frescas originated in Mexico, but they’re popularity has spread throughout the rest of Latin America and the US.

They’re made from a variety of fruits and cereals and are served at many Mexican restaurants (horchata, anyone?), but you can also make your own. Here we bring you the recipe for a yummy and refreshing watermelon and lime agua fresca. You will need:

  • 2 pounds seedless watermelon
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 tsp. fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp. honey

Blend all the ingredients together, except for the honey. Add it gradually as needed. Strain and serve over ice. If you’re feeling naughty you can always kick it up a notch by adding a shot of vodka or white rum. Throw in your girls and you have got yourself a fiesta!
