Concentrate!
One of the many inherent skills we possess as women is the ability to multitask. We can chop veggies for the arroz con pollo, talk to mami on the phone and update our Facebook status, all at the same time and without even breaking a sweat. It’s an amazing feat, but it only works when we’re doing things that require minimum concentration. In order to achieve maximum focus, it is imperative to get rid of all distractions. So if you need to get some serious work done, you need to close all those extra tabs on your browser (like Perez Hilton and Twitter and your IM conversations) and devote your full attention to the task at hand. Scientists have found that we can only truly focus on one thing at a time, so don’t try to bite off more than you can chew. Do only one important thing at a time, and for that period of time try to forget about all the other stuff you need to get done. Prioritize your tasks and use your time wisely, that way you won’t feel overwhelmed. Concentration also happens more easily when you are truly interested in what you’re doing, so trying to change your attitude towards a less-than-thrilling assignment might help. Save the whirlwind multitasking for el oficio and other menial chores so you can fully focus on the stuff that matters. The more you concentrate, the faster it’ll get done, right?
