City you live in:
I live in Berrien Springs, MI

I prefer communicating in English, but I am fluent in Spanish. Spanglish is definitely my favorite. Whenever I get stuck when I am lecturing in Spanish, I speak Spanglish. I find it to be a great way to incorporate humor into my lectures, and it makes my audience feel comfortable.

Favorite Latin food you can’t live without
My mom’s cooking. That woman can throw down on some veggie dishes. I also can’t live without papas. I think it’s the Peruvian in me. Luckily, my mom cooks lots of  papas.

What is your Latina contradiction?
Not sure about this, but are there a lot of Latina vegetarians? This is huge to me. NO MEAT in my diet.

When you think of Latin culture what are the first words you think of?
I immediately think of SAZON, spicy, and flavor. Our culture has lots of traditions, diversity, and depth. I love it all!

What is your ethnicity? Or where is your family from?
I was born in Peru, and moved to Toronto, Canada when I was a year old. I consider myself to be more Canadian than Peruvian, but I love having Peruvian roots and now I’ve embraced living in the United States and being an American citizen. So I guess I am from everywhere; I’m a little North American and a little South American. But mostly I am North American, with lots of SAZON.

Where is your family from?
My family is from Peru and Brazil.

Favorite Latin artist or music?
All I can say is J-to-the-Lo. I love me some Jennifer Lopez. She first caught my eye in Money Train, and then I really fell for her in Selena. Honestly, I had never heard of Selena till then. (She was also awesome, que Dios la bendiga!)
For a long time I didn’t know much about Latin artists. I grew up listening to Hip-Hop, R&B, and pop–Lots of TLC, Boyz to Men, and Madonna.

iPhone or BlackBerry?
Neither, but I have an awesome pink phone that I love to pieces.

How do you describe your style?
I love ruffles, flowers, bows and simplicity. I enjoy being eclectic and creative with my style while keeping it simple. I wear lots of neutrals with pops of color.

What media in English and/or Spanish do you prefer/consume, as in what magazines, newspapers, TV shows, etc?
I was a huge fan of  Friends and SATC, and, back in the day, 90210. Now I read a lot. I don’t indulge in too much media consumption. I read O Magazine and lots of books on spirituality, such as, A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle, A Return to Love, by Marianne Williamson, and Add more ~Ing to your Life, by Gabrielle Berstein.
